Community Service-

a noble endeavor

"Hoe Out"

Here is a little twist on community service. We have lots of odd bits of things that we have collected and we want them to "go away"! Now, not "go away" in the garbage but "go away" to your house and turn in to something beautiful! So---- here is the plan!

Throughout the year we will "hoe out" our cupboards, shelves, closets and store rooms and make goodie bags full of really good stuff- it might be fabric, a partial kit or a half finished project. When we tempt you to take a bag, your picture and a picture of your goodies will go live, right here on our web site. Then let your imaginatin go wild! Bring your finished project in so we can take a picture of your "Hoe Out" project then you can give it to someone who needs a special treat or keep it for yourself. Your choice. Get ready for a surprise and lots of fun. Who knows what you will get? Who knows what it will turn in to?

Keep watching, there will be fun stuff here.

We delivered 96 quilts to the Dana Farber Cancer Center in Boston on June 7. Children and adults who are being treated through the Jimmy Fund will be the recipients of the beautiful quilts.Yep, we have made 96 quilts. Yea for us! Each quilt has a note tucked inside asking the recipient to send us an e-mail to tell us about themselves. We will keep you posted.

wow, what an accomplishment~

Bonus Free patterns for you!

Everyone likes free quilt patterns so here is the plan- we will design quilts to use the four patch blocks then we will use them to make "give back" quilts. You can use the patterns to make baby and lap quilts at home! Our quilts will finish 42" x 54" a perfect size.

Quilt #1

Four by Four

Make 24 four patch blocks that are 6 1/2" square. This is a perfect wayto use up some scraps or odd bits that need a new home. Your small squares will be 3 1/2" square.

Choose 2 fabrics that will compliment your four patch blocks. You will need exactly 14" of each fabric so start with more. Cut each fabric into

3 1/2" strips then cut each strip into three 12 1/2" pieces. You will need 12 strips 3 1/2" wide and 12 1/2" long from each of the two fabrics. Strip piece the two fabrics 1,2,1,2 so that you have a 12 1/2" square. Press. You will need six of these pieced blocks. Now piece 4 of your four patch blocks together and press. You will need six 12 1/2" pieced blocks. Join the blocks into rows, 3 blocks across and 4 rows down alternating theblocks. Border fabric- you will need 1/2 yard, but get more if you want to bind. Cut 5 strips 3 1/2" wide and piece to the quilt. You will need 1 1/2 strips for the long sides. You will need 1 2/3 yards back and batting. Now you are ready to back, batt and quilt as desired.
